Day 45: Wednesday 12 March 2008

This will be the last regular daily post for a while. Thought not everything went exactly to plan the road between The Pavilion and Belgrave road is now open once again. Only four days late. The original plan was to close the road for six weeks, clear trees and scrub from the cliff face and check for problems relating to rock falls. The scrub was covering the rock face almost completely and it wasn't until it was cleared that the true extent of the seriousness of the problem could be seen. Some of the rock face is unstable so a barrier was built along the landward side of the duel carriageway to protect traffic using the seaward side. A team of geologists are surveying the cliff face and a report will be submitted to the council on May 1. What work that needs to be done will then start in September, after the summer season.

I will post any relevant details that appear in the press or elsewhere and once work starts I will continue posting daily again.

So see you all in September but look in from time to time to find out if anything else has happened.

Buses, back where they should be, on Rock Walk. The road here is actually called Torbay Road but is now know as Rock Walk. We get close to the trees at one point due to the camber in the road but there is enough room. I have been up and down a few times now and drive at about 20 mph and there are no problems.

Notes about the blog. Updated 08 March 2008

Not much is happening at Rock Work now. All the work clearing the trees has been done. A barrier has been erected to prevent rock falls from reaching the road. Now we wait for the geological survey in May to see what can be done to fix the rocks in place.
After that when work starts again later in the year I will post more photos.
Any news items I come across I will post as they appear in the local paper.

Or you can work through the whole blog to find more detail.

If you left click on a photo you get a larger image.

Each day has the label "Day", click on it and you will miss out the other posts.

Articles from the Herald Express are labelled Herald Express.

And so on.
