This section of the paths on Rock Walk first came into view in February when Devon Tree Services removed the trees and bushes from in front of it. The ground below the bridge and the bridge it's self was littered with rubbish, beer cans, plastic bags, food cartons and hypodermic syringes due to the area being used by a small group of less desirable tourists. The photo above was taken on Tuesday and when I walked by today, Friday it had gone.

Hi David, It's interesting that they took down the trees to save the cliff. In my neck of the woods, taking down trees is often the cause of erosion as the roots are what is holding the soil in place. When we get heavy rain (occasionally many inches in a single day)the soil just washes away without any roots to hold it in place.
Hi Grannysaurus, it's true about trees holding soil in place but what's happened here is the tree roots are pulling the rocks apart. Once a root gets in to a crack it gets bigger and bigger, water gets in and the cracks get bigger and rocks fall down.It takes a while but the trees had been there a hundred years or more.
